Taking stock of your Adventure

We’ve explored four of the seven themes of happiness so far, focusing on a new habit each week, and rather than moving onto theme five, this week I invite you to take stock. Every adventure needs a resting point, to revive and recharge for the next stage.

“Much happiness is overlooked because it doesn’t cost anything”

Your appreciation of nature costs you no more than a few minutes of your time each day. What returns is it bringing for you? Take a few moments, if you haven’t already done so this week, to journal out all of the things that you are enjoying from simply enjoying what is there for you to see and sense. Can you put a price on the positive feelings it gives you?

Keep going - you have the weekend ahead to add more minutes to your moments if you wish.

Appreciate your nature on a Wednesday

It happens to be raining today and I wonder how that is affecting your appreciation of nature? Developing the happiness habit involves recognising that it is always first and foremost an inside job. It’s interesting how much time and energy we therefore spend on complaining or bemoaning something over which we have absolutely no control.

Getting back to nature has a long history of association with happiness. Feeling connected to the elements can make you feel calmer, help you get a sense of perspective and can be a gateway to many joyful experiences. Especially in the cut and thrust of today’s world, reminding yourself of the simplicity of nature by experiencing it more often is a great way to de-stress and feel more like yourself – appreciating your OWN nature more and more.

Write yourself happy on a Friday

Do you want to boost your chances of success in building your “write yourself happy” habit AND add in another tried and tested tip for happiness? A double whammy that will compound the effect of what you are doing? You do? OK ,then...

“80 per cent of success in life is showing up.”                                                                                                             Woody Allen

Success and happiness are interlinked. You can have one without the other but usually something is missing in both if one is absent.
